Character Boats
Character Boats Ltd originated in Overton near Morecambe and was founded by Bill Bailiff.
Following Bill’s death in November 1995 the business transferred to Adrian Denye. The business is now based at Lytham – St Annes.
I never met Bill, sadly, but have had the privilege of sailing with Adrian both on one of his boats and on my own. There is nothing like sailing with the boat builder to learn how to get the best from her and yourself and to learn about the history and heritage of the craft.
The boats they build now retain the same traditional values but of course adopt modern safety standards and materials. Apparently they still have the mould for the old Lune Pilot but they don’t make them anymore – but I expect they would if I asked…
